Loch Ness, Scotland :: Urquhart Castle

While visiting Inverness, Scotland we took a day trip to Loch Ness & a boat ride on the famous fresh water body of water. The Loch is a calm mirror of black water, which adds to the mystic of this mysterious place. We kept our eyes out for the infamous Nessy, but didn't see the wee beast.

Mythological Creatures aside, the Loch is impressive & it was a peaceful way to spend the afternoon. After a short boat ride on the Loch we arrived at Urquhart Castle, a ruin that belongs to the Clan Grant. It was destroyed during the Jacobite Uprising to keep it from falling into Rebel hands.

We got incredibly lucky with the weather on the day of our visit. While on the boat the weather was rather chilly (it pretty much poured rain for our entire time in Scotland), but once we arrived at Castle Urquhart, the clouds parted & the sunshine came out to play.

The kids down there are playing video games. I got a kick out of that & for whatever reason that made the trip even more enjoyable for me. When I was 13 years old, I probably would have been doing the same thing. I wonder if their video game had mythological creatures in the mix, but I never asked...
